Altogether 45 nations with about 1000 athletes, participating in 44 disciplines will be placed in twelve hotels. Star of the championships could be the heptathlete Carolina Klüft (Sweden). She will defend her title in Long Jump. Decathlon may be the highlight. 34 athletes announced.

Siegfried Schonert aspects 2000 spectators on the days of qualification Thursday and Friday. At the weekend, where the most decisions take place, he aspects more interested people.

Athletes from Erfurt should be local heroes. Stefan Eberhardt participates in 1500 meters. His coach Dieter Hermann is impressed of the tall man. "He is very talented.
