Once all of your belongings are in your new home, it may seem like you’re done with everything. However, there are still things you need to do even after you’ve unpacked. Here are a few other things to get checked off your list once you’ve settled in. 

Deep Clean Your Home

Of course, the previous tenants will probably have done a decent job cleaning, but you’ll probably want to clean your new home yourself as well. Getting everything nice and clean can help you feel at home. 

Change the Locks

You should always change the locks when you move into a new house. The previous occupants always have to turn in the keys, but you never know where there might be an extra one floating around. When it comes to you and your family’s safety, it’s always better to take precautions. You may even consider adding a security system. 

Update Your Address

You’d be surprised at how many places you’ll have to update your address with. You should start with the post office and go from there. You’ll need to inform your employer as soon as possible as well. Then, notify your bank and update any credit cards you have. As time goes on, there will be more places that come up that you’ll need to let know about your change of address. Try to get this done as quickly as possible after you move to avoid any confusion. 

Although you don’t need to finish all of this the day you move in, the sooner you get these things done the better. After all, once these are checked off your list, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your new home.
